Biodiversity at Les Marines de Cogolin:
When the port becomes a refuge for biodiversity
Located in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the team at Port des Marines de Cogolin believes that a marina should be much more than just a stopover.
Since 2018, we have been committed to regenerating the seabed. Today, thanks to our partnership with Ecocean, we are proud to share with you the results of the 2025 ecological monitoring program.
To protect our ecosystem, we have installed Biohuts along our quays. These artificial nurseries protect young fish from predators. In 2025, the scientific report confirmed that our efforts were bearing fruit:

Specific richness: We have identified 13 species of fish and 14 species of vagile fauna that have made their home here.

Success indicator: We have observed the return of the brown grouper, an iconic species that confirms the quality of our refuge areas.

Support for the local economy: We currently protect five commercially important species (sea bass, sars, red mullet, pink shrimp) during their growth phase before they reach the open sea.

Our approach does not stop at observation. We integrate these actions into a genuine strategy of sustainable port management. As a port certified as a Clean Port Active in Biodiversity, we place the preservation of biodiversity in the Mediterranean at the heart of our daily decisions.
In 2026, we decided to take awareness even further:

We educate the younger generations: We welcome schoolchildren to help them discover the invisible riches that live under our pontoons. In 2026, six new classes will learn how to take care of the Mediterranean through educational games.

We share our discoveries: During the summer, we offer our visitors a free photo exhibition so that everyone can admire the biodiversity we protect.

We are constantly innovating: We use this scientific data to adapt our infrastructure and maintenance methods: Free wastewater collection, autonomous robot for cleaning the water, etc.
